Eleftheria Binikou was born and grew up in Athens, Greece. She has studied Translation at the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpretation, Ionian University of Corfu, Greece. Her bachelor dissertation focused on the translation, linguistic analysis and glossary of the chapter Greek Drama from Peter Levi’s book The Oxford History of the Classical World (Oxford University Press, 1991). She has completed her postgraduate studies programme in Political, Economic and International Relations in the Mediterranean at the School of Humanities, Department of Mediterranean Studies, University of the Aegean, Greece. She has also studied at the Institut de Traduction et Interprétation, Université de Strasbourg, France, on a university scholarship. In 2000 she worked in the Press and Information Office for the Sydney Olympic Games, Australia. In 2005-2006 she worked at the DG Translation of the European Parliament, Greek section, in Luxembourg. Since 2007 she has been working as a translator at the International Writers and Translators’ Center of Rhodes – Municipal Organization for Culture and Sports of Rhodes. She speaks English, French and German. She is in charge of the translation department, the international affairs of the Center and the editing and publication of the bilingual literary magazine Helios.
